Filing for Legislative Position
With Superintendent Christensen filing as a House of Representative candidate, a question has come forward regarding his current assignment with Eastmont School District. Below is a response he recently sent in response to this question.

"Working both at the legislative level and in public service has been done before as demonstrated by other public entity employees Mike Armstrong, Brad Hawkins, and Colfax Superintendent Don Cox. The majority of our representatives are citizen legislators, rather than professional politicians, in that they continue to work outside of the legislature as Senator Linda Parlette did for many years.

If successful in the election, the Board and I would review the legislative schedule and determine what is the best solution. I may request a leave similar to what can happen with jury duty, or some combination of paid and unpaid leave. As a 12 month employee, I earn vacation days that are used if I want to take days off during spring break, summer break, Christmas break, and for other absences. These days are work days for me unless they are state holidays or I use vacation days.

It would be the Board's decision on how to cover my absence. Depending on the time and activities, it may be covered by other district office administrators helping out and me working remotely as we do now if I am out of the area. Both Mr. Taylor and Mr. Marney regularly take turns as my designee when I am on vacation unavailable.

Please know if this happens, we will review our solution with both District legal counsel, and the Washington Public Disclosure Commission (PDC) to ensure we avoid any conflict of interests or potential audit concerns."
