Eastmont School District is committed to identifying and providing for the unique educational needs of all of our students in order to best prepare them for college and career readiness.  Children who have outstanding abilities and are capable of exceptional performance should be provided opportunities that meet their needs.  The most highly capable students require an intensified, accelerated, and/or varied curriculum, as well as an opportunity to share interests and experiences with other students with like abilities.

At this time, Eastmont School District is soliciting nominations/referrals from students, parents, teachers, and our community of students that are believed to have a high capacity to learn quickly, deeply, and/or broadly, so that we can better provide an individualized educational service to each of our students.  Students nominated through this process will be considered for services to meet their needs based upon screening and assessment with the permission of their parent/guardian.

(3) Creative ability to make unusual connections among ideas and concepts;

(4) Ability to learn quickly in their area(s) of intellectual strength; and

(5) Capacity for intense concentration and/or focus.

“The legislature finds that, for highly capable students, access to accelerated learning and enhanced instruction IS access to a BASIC education.”

Highly Capable services for this school year resumed this fall. Remember, if your child is already in the program, you do not have to do anything for them to continue in the program. If you have a child who you believe would qualify for the program, we will again have an open nomination period, in December (now closed for 2017-18 school year), in which you may nominate/refer them. The next open nomination period begins in December 2018.

As always, if your child is new to our district, and you believe they would qualify for the Highly Capable program, please contact Abbey Reynolds, Highly Capable Coordinator, at 884-7169. Also, if your child is new to our district, but they were identified as Highly Capable in your last district, please provide that information to your child's school. Once we have that information, your child may begin receiving Highly Capable Program services.
