BEACONS of Excellence Kenroy is taking part in the Beacon's Grant through OSPI. The purpose of this project is to better meet the educational needs of children with or at risk of developing severe emotional/behavioral disabilities.
Project Goals
Support the implementation of positive behavior interventions and supports for all students, including:
- Build school and community capacity to better meet the needs of students and families.Improve student's academic and social performance in special and general education classes.Enhance the knowledge and skills of educators to meet the needs of students with challenging behavior, including the use of data to inform decision making and the use of functional assessments.
- Coordinate Washington State's efforts at aligning with the national focus on positive behavior interventions and supports.
Evaluation
- Schools track office discipline referrals and use this information to inform decision making.Students at each school receive assessments on their academic, social, and emotional functioning.Yearly screenings help to identify high risk students and focus interventions and supports.
- Educators, families, and students evaluate and use assessment data as a part of ongoing program improvement.
