Mathematics

The study of Mathematics is an integral element in the development of students' ability to function successfully in a culturally diverse, economically global, technologically advanced society. Mathematics is a process of solving problems, reasoning and communicating mathematically, and learning to value mathematics as it relates to other disciplines, real-world applications and lifelong learning. The Mathematics program focuses on developing mathematical power and building self-confidence in one's ability to learn mathematics.

Here in the Eastmont School District, we believe that all students need to develop basic mathematical skills (the sight-words of mathematics) while learning to connect and apply these skills to the real world. Students in the Eastmont School District will develop mathematical thinking through developmentally appropriate learning strategies, in which concepts are developed along a continuum from concrete to representational abstract, using the tools of technology as appropriate.

"Pure mathematics is, in its way,
the poetry of logical ideas."
