Children's Health, Safety & Nutrition

Students will develop knowledge and skills to ensure the good health, nutrition and safety of children in group care and education programs. Included in this course will be knowledge of: how to recognize the signs of abuse and neglect; prevention of disease and illness; emergency skills and first aid; nutritional guidelines and safe food practices; licensing regulations; and policies that guide child care facilities. Students will also understand their role and responsibilities as a mandated reporter and the resources within the community to address all of the above topics. This course is Dual Credit approved by Wenatchee Valley College in the Early Childhood Education Program area.  Students demonstrating proficiency in the college course competencies with a 'B' or better grade, may earn college credit through the dual credit registration process (ECED 107). To earn college credit, students are required to pass a skill check/assessment with the teacher.
