Computer Applications ADV

Computer Applications –This course is designed to advance the students' working knowledge of the PC using relevant business applications. To become MOS certified, a student must pass an applications exam developed by Microsoft Corporation. The exam is designed to show that the test taker has reached a measurable level of proficiency with the particular software. MOS certification is valuable in the work world and for students who plan to attend college. Critical thinking, problem analysis, and troubleshooting skills are practiced in this class through the use of real-world business scenarios.

Students are required to earn two certifications (Word, Word Expert, Excel and/or Excel Expert, depending on prior certifications). College credit is available for students who become certified should the college of their choice offer classes leading to certification (usually a max of three). Students are encouraged to earn their Master certification.

This course is approved for CTE Dual Credit and articulated with Wenatchee Valley College in the Business Program Area. Students who demonstrate proficiency in the college course competencies with a ‘B’ (3.0) or better grade, may earn college credit through the CTE Dual Credit registration process. The college competencies are listed below. During the (semester/year) all competencies will be covered in class...some may require additional independent work by the student. To earn college credit, students are required to pass a skill check/assessment with the high school instructor.

Upon completion of this course, successful students will score 80% or better on the following competencies to receive WVC college credits.
