Superintendent Spencer Taylor visits schools and departments throughout Eastmont during a monthly tradition of personally delivering employee newsletters.
On the last workday of every month, Eastmont Superintendent Spencer Taylor begins a tradition that doesn't take place behind a desk or in a boardroom.
Instead, he puts on his walking shoes.
Each month, Taylor personally delivers an employee newsletter to every Eastmont staff member across the district, visiting schools, departments, and buildings to greet employees by name and thank them for their work.
For Taylor, who recently completed his first full year as Eastmont's superintendent, the walks are about more than delivering a newsletter. They're about staying connected.
Over the course of the 2025–26 school year, the monthly tradition of districtwide deliveries reached approximately 620 employees each month and covered more than 8 miles of walking every time.
The newsletter walks are just one example of a year spent building relationships across the district. During the school year, Taylor completed 324 school visits, attended 61 student activities and events, and participated in 9 bus route ride-alongs to better understand the student experience from the moment the school day begins.
Whether visiting classrooms, cheering on students at activities, riding alongside bus drivers, or stopping to talk with staff members in hallways, Taylor believes leadership starts with being present.
"What makes Eastmont incredibly special is our people—both those who work directly with students and those who provide vital service and support behind the scenes," Taylor said. "Being present and knowing you by name is my way of showing, not just saying, how much our staff and students truly matter. It keeps me rooted in the amazing things happening in our schools every single day. Walking through our buildings, catching up face-to-face, and saying hello is, without a doubt, my favorite day of the month!"
While the miles may add up, so do the conversations, connections, and opportunities to celebrate the people who make Eastmont schools a special place to learn and work.
