McKinney-Vento Act
Eastmont School District's Homeless Education Support is in place to address and support the educational needs of students who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. This includes students who are:
- Sharing housing due to loss of housing, economic hardship or a similar reason
- Live in a motel, hotel, trailer park or campground
- Live in an emergency or transitional shelter
- Have been abandoned at a hospital
- Whose nighttime residence is not ordinarily used as a regular sleeping place (ie. parks, cars, abandoned buildings, bus stations)
- Migratory children living in any of the above situations
Our Goals:
- Ensure that students are able to fully participate in school and participate in school-related extracurricular activities and sports.
- Equal access to school-related activities, sports, and all opportunities available.
- We work to support and connect families and unaccompanied youth with any resources needed.
- Our mission is to promote educational stability for students living in transitional housing situations.
- By working together, we strive to remove barriers so McKinney-Vento students can learn, grow, and thrive.
We value our community partners. Our program collaborates with community agencies to assist and refer families and unaccompanied youth. All with the goal of ensuring educational stability for students in short-term/temporary and transitional/homeless housing situations.
